Confronting the Pope of Suspicion was the only publication to expose the truth about Amoris Laetitia, namely, that it revived old heresies from the seventies that were the chief cause of the sexual abuse scandal. In response to this “year of reflection on Amoris Laetitia,” Confronting the Pope of Suspicion will be released in a new, expanded paperback edition.
In Response to the Papal Year of Reflection on “Amoris Laetitia”
Pope Francis declared 2021 to be a year of reflection on Amoris Laetitia, but he didn’t really mean it. The year of “reflection” kicks off on March 19th, but it is to be a year of promotion rather than honest reflection. Expect to find programs and retreats dedicated to praising the worst papal publication in the history of the Church. And that’s not hyperbole. As I stated in my book Confronting the Pope of Suspicion:
Francis and his circle of allies were . . . introduc[ing] doctrinal change on the subject of homosexuality.

The “December Massacre”
That headline was too hot to print when my book was first published in May of 2019. But just seven months later, in December, this “controversial” claim was vindicated in spades. I’ve called it “the December Massacre.” First, the German bishops announced the convening of a synod to reevaluate the Church’s teaching on sexual morality from a more “scientific” perspective. And what this new “scientific” perspective presumably demonstrated, according to the German bishops, was that homosexuality is a natural expression of human sexuality—a direct assault on the Gospel and two-thousand years of teaching. What was the justification for such a dramatic reversal of Scriptural Church teaching according to the the German bishops? AMORIS LAETITIA. Did the Vatican issue a response? In a manner of speaking. They AGREED with the Germans. Only days after the German press release, the Vatican announced the publication of a new book that argued that the Bible was not qualified to teach on certain contemporary moral issues. What was one of those issues? Homosexuality. According to excerpts of the Vatican text, we need “science” to help us understand today’s moral controversies. Understand how radical this is. Within days of each other, the German bishops and the Vatican issued separate statements which agree on the same heretical proposition, namely, that the Bible—THE WORD OF GOD—no longer has the authority to give us moral commandments, especially in the area of sexuality, and, more specifically, homosexuality. Did the pope have anything to say? Yes he did. In his Christmas address to the Curia—which also took place in December, 2019—he said that the Church was two-hundred years behind the times and that the Church needed—guess what— to catch up? “SCIENCE.”
Science Science SCIENCE. In this year of reflection on Amoris Laetitia, expect to find an aggressive promotion of LGBT propaganda that tells us how the Church must not be “anti-science.” The Amoris Laetitia-inspired propaganda will sound a lot like this Washington Post article authored by Sr. Jeannine Gramick, a close buddy of Fr. James Martin:
Catholic thinking dictates that we should use the evidence we find in the natural world to help us reach our conclusions. Many Catholics have reflected on the scientific evidence that homosexuality is a natural variant in human sexuality, and understand that lesbian and gay love is as natural as heterosexual love. This year, the Pope Francis message on homosexuality and sex in general will be aggressively promoted in every diocese throughout the world. It is the heretical, not-so-subtle message of Amoris Laetitia which asserts that science is the trusted authority for sexual morality and that the Bible and the Ten Commandments are no longer valid sources for moral guidance.
In fact, this is already happening in my own diocese of Raleigh, North Carolina. Pro-LGBT ministries are being started at parishes that never previously had them. I have no doubt that the expansion of the pro-homosexual heresy in my diocese is a response to the pope’s call for a “reflection” on Amoris Laetitia.
“Confronting the Pope of Suspicion” Sets the Record Straight
Catholics need to understand that the present pope is spreading false and dangerous doctrines about sexuality that flatly reject God’s teachings and laws. Confronting the Pope of Suspicion sets the record straight in a short (about a hundred pages) and easy-to-read book. It reveals the previously hidden history behind the ideas in Amoris Laetitia. And what my book uncovers is a very dark history indeed. Confronting the Pope of Suspicion is the only book to tell the full truth about Amoris Laetitia:
- Amoris Laetitia promotes old heresies that were popular in seminaries in the sixties and seventies.
- Those heresies, like Pope Francis today, replaced the Bible with “science” as the authority for understanding sexual morality.
- The new, heretical theology followed “science” instead of the Bible in telling seminarians that no sexual behavior had been proven to be harmful and that people should feel free to explore and act on their sexual desires, whatever those desires may be. “Conscience,” rather than Divine Law, was to be the individual’s moral compass.
- The new heresies followed “science” in defending homosexuality as a natural and healthy variant of human sexuality.
- Some heretical texts went so far as to explicitly defend pedophilia, arguing that “scientific research” showed that the practice was not harmful to children.
Confronting the Pope of Suspicion revealed an important but not well understood dimension of the Church’s sexual abuse scandal, and it is an uncomfortable truth for Pope Francis and his followers. The chief cause of the sexual abuse scandal in the Church was a widely disseminated heresy about human sexuality that has been resuscitated by Pope Francis in the pages of Amoris Laetitia. Thus the conclusion is unavoidable but not well understood: The promotion of Amoris Laetitia will mean the revival of sexual abuse in the Church. Lives will be destroyed and souls will be lost.
It is urgent in this year of promotion of Amoris Laetitia, that people do their utmost to get this dangerous book out of their youth groups and parishes and seminaries. But this will never happen until people come to understand the dark truth of Amoris Laetitia. Confronting the Pope of Suspicion is not only the strongest weapon, it is the ONLY resource for alerting Catholics to the dangerous propaganda that masquerades as science in Amoris Laetitia. This little paperback is the ideal resource for informing parishes. Coming this March is the new, expanded paperback edition of Confronting the Pope of Suspicion. It will include explosive, new revelations never before published.

It’s not that complicated. Replace divine law with pop psychology and disaster follows. Connects the dots between Amoris Laetitia, Carl Rogers, theological dissent, and sexual chaos in the Church. A short but profound read.

John Gravino presents here a sober, thoroughly documented and powerfully argued case that the sexual abuse of children became an epidemic among Catholic clergy because relativistic psychology replaced Biblical morality in the training of priests.
